City of West Plains Asking Residents for Assistance During Snowstorm
The City of West Plains is asking residents for their assistance as City crews work diligently to clear the streets and maintain power for its citizens during the current snowstorm.
The City is asking residents for their help with the following:
1) Stay home and off the streets! City Street Department crews are trying to clear off large amounts of snow, which is made much more difficult with vehicle traffic and other obstacles in the way. Please stay home, for your safety and theirs!
2) Turn down your thermostats and limit appliance usage! The freezing temperatures are wreaking havoc on the electric grid for the City and other utility providers. The City previously issued a peak alert and is asking citizens to keep their thermostats at 68 degrees or cooler, and to also limit laundry and other major applicant usage. These efforts have already helped the City’s electric grid, and residents are asked to continue doing their part to ensure there is enough power for everyone. Every little bit helps!
3) Be careful with portable space heaters! Portable heaters are commonly used during extremely cold weather, but please be careful how you use them. Do NOT use outdoor gas heaters indoors! Also, turn off heaters when leaving the room or going to bed, and keep anything that can burn (furniture, drapes, electronics) at least three feet away. Plug the heaters directly into the wall instead of a power strip, and never place an electrical cord under a rug.
